Behind The Bet (BTB) is an advocacy organization founded by high schoolers to help fellow high schoolers (and college students) better understand the risks of online sports gambling. With betting apps on their smartphones, almost every teenager now has a casino in their pocket, always accessible at any hour (or any minute) to make a bet. The innocence of sports fandom is increasingly being replaced by gambling, which can turn into a dangerous addiction and financial ruin.

The immediate focus of BTB is working with interested high schools and providing them credentialed experts addressing the youth crisis of online sports betting. BTB deploys these experts to high schools to educate students in modules similar to those on drug and alcohol addiction. Through the BTB website, high school administrators, faculty and students can book speakers and educators to present at their respective schools.

In the next phase, BTB will develop proposals that could be adopted at the citywide level to officially integrate gambling education into school programming about addiction.
